The purpose of education is three-fold Adhijanan (to create better progeny through reproduction), and Adhyayan (to pave the way for the formation of human life through learning) and Adhilavan (to remove unnecessary growth). This is the process of making an idol from stone. The idol is already present in the stone block. Simply by chiseling away the unnecessary parts, the Deity is revealed. Similarly, perfection already exists in every human being, to manifest it is the aim of the learning process. For this, the awareness of ‘Heya’ that which is required to be discarded and sorted out is also important. After describing the divine assets in the sixteenth chapter of the Gita, Bhagvan also describes the demonic attributes in detail and also gives the remedy for unbinding them.
The direction of education is from within to without, not the other way. Information from without works as a stimulus and knowledge is manifested from within to without. Mere transmission of information cannot be called education. When the manifestation of inherent perfection is understood as education, the headstand (Reverse direction) of the pedagogy will be corrected. Instead of stuffing information, the effort of realization of knowledge will start with experimentation &experience. This penance (Research) will become the preferred pedagogy.
Aaradhya (target of worship) of the third Navratri is Mata Chandraghanta. There is a moon shaped bell on mother’s forehead. Whereas the moon provides coolness, the same mother vanquishes enemies with the sound of bells. It is expected to remain calm even in destruction. Bhagavad Gita says – युद्धस्व विगतज्वरः (Yuddhasva vigatajvarah). The bell is the symbol of the Ninad (Sound Vibrations). The destruction of Asura – (out of tune demons) due to the melodiousness of word or sound is also an example of Adhilavana (Proper Removal). Mother Chandraghanta rides a tiger or a lion wielding weapons in her ten arms. Weapons along with scriptures are essential part of education. Various types of weapons have to be used to remove different types of waste. Devi’s armament explains the fact of life that creation and destruction go hand in hand in life. As much as birth is necessary for life, the death is also essential. Being motherly goddess, she is the bearer of children, as well as being the power of Shiva, she is also the weapon-wielding Kali.
In human body also, metabolism i.e. anabolism and catabolism go together. At each moment, millions of cells die and other millions are regenerated and replaced. Along with the birth of new cells, the death of old cells is also necessary for the survival of human beings. If a cell refuses to obey the discipline of the body and does not die when time comes, then it becomes the cause of cancer. Tumor is formed from this malignant cell. The undisciplined cell spreads malignancy to others and causes the death of the whole body. The cell which does not die for the body, kills the whole body. The same is true of the Virat Purush Rashtra. If the Rashtranga (National limbs) are not ready to die for it, then the fragmentation and collapse is certain. By awakening this sense of organic being in education, the readiness to make sacrifices for the sake of Dharma – the prime duty is also an important learning outcome.
The tiger or lion symbolizes the valor in humans. When the divine power mounts on courage, strength and valor, only then does he progress from animality to divinity. Both of these are present in humans. The proper eradication of animality is the way to the manifestation of divinity.
